| Portrait - Marilyn Monroe |
Step 04
|
This is the beginning of the buildup of detail. A light brown is used to darken shadow areas and begin sharpening overall detail. Note the hair: small amounts of lines are built up with consecutive color layers to give depth and realism. Don't attempt to fully detail the hair with each step of color. You will wind up with an over-worked mess.
Also, don't try to make all lines and edges sharp and tight. Part of the illusion of realism is created by sharp edges in the foreground contrasting with soft edges of the midground and blurred edges of the background. Without this kind of contrast, there is no depth and the portrait will appear flat.
