Red, yellow, and blue are now used to color the first layer of highlights. In slightly coloring the highlights this way with colors we've already used, a more limited palette can yield wide results. Several different layers of shadows were built up, and a couple of layers of highlights are needed to enhance the portrait's illusion of depth.
Note the color laid on the teeth!
